Besli is one of the Ottoman provincial light cavalry formations. Beslis were recruited from families of the borderlands, one rider per several families, and paid for from the provincial governor’s treasury. The formation consisted squadrons of varying strength that on campaign were combined into larger units. Their equipment was very diverse and included: spears, sabers, bows, javelins etc. As a typical light cavalry Besli were mainly used for reconnaissance, screening, spreading terror and destruction of enemy territory. In battles they supported the Sipahi by flanking maneuvers and with their bows.
Figure is supplied unpainted and require little assembly.
